LGV Approved Courses

Our LGV programmes are available in 3.5 hour modules which can be mixed and matched to produce a 7 hour course. In doing so, you are able to create a bespoke course which suits your business needs.

A – Customer Care

Suitable for all drivers with a customer facing role, this course enables drivers to understand how they can help to enhance their company image, improve their standards of service and understand how to deal appropriately with customer enquiries. Drivers should take away an awareness of the responsibility of their role within the representation of their company brand, improving relationships between their company and their customer.

B – Driver Health, Defensive and Fuel Efficient Driving

A classroom based programme which provides an introduction to the principles of safe and fuel efficient driving, creating an awareness of how driving technique affects fuel consumption. Drivers will learn how concentration and planning can reduce incidents and vehicle downtime, ultimately leading to reduced fuel costs for the fleet and a less stressed driver! Drivers will also looks at the importance of physical and mental ability, the principles of healthy eating and the role of the basic work/rest cycle.

C – Drivers Hours

This course provides candidates with the knowledge of working time to ensure they are aware of working periods specific to the transport industry. Ensuring drivers know the rules regarding rest breaks and working hours helps to develop a culture of safety and compliance, leading to a reduction in tachograph offences/infringements and corresponding costs.

D – Digital Tachographs

Suitable for drivers of vehicles fitted with Digital Tachographs, this course provides candidates with knowledge of regulations (EEC) 561/2006 and 3821/85. Responsibility lies with both the driver and the employer to remain compliant. Ensuring drivers understand the rules regarding rest breaks and working hours helps to develop a culture of safety and compliance, leading to a reduction in tachograph offences/infringements and corresponding costs.

E – Manual Handling

Most back injuries are caused by heavy or awkward lifting and are a major cause of low performance within a job role. This course aims to create awareness of how to lift in a correct and safe manner, without causing damage to self or others.

F – First Aid Awareness

Drivers spend a great deal of their working day alone in a high risk environment with machinery and chemicals. In the First Aid session, candidates learn techniques such as resuscitation and CPR, gaining vital minutes in the wait for the emergency services in the event of an incident.

G – Health and Safety

The course aims to help candidates identify and eliminate potential hazards in the workplace, with particular regards to vehicles. Providing practical advice to create an awareness of the safety culture within their businesses, the course content also covers slips, trips and falls and other workplace related incidents, ultimately creating a responsible workforce who considers the consequences of their actions.

H – Load Security

This course covers safety in securing loads, including roping and sheeting, use of curtains, chain placement of the load and the correct procedure for loading a vehicle.

I – SAFED 1:1 *

This course aims to give the candidate the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques in becoming a Safe and Fuel Efficient Driver. Based on the standard one-day SAFED course, this is delivered in a 3.5 hour module on a 1 to 1 basis with a fully qualified SAFED instructor, enabling the driver to attend another module in the other part of the day.

J – Product Awareness

This course has been developed in conjunction with representatives from the petro-chemical industries and is aimed at training drivers on the handling characteristics of specific chemical types. Drivers will look at product properties, associated hazards and the transport and safety requirements.

K – Behavioural Based Safety

BBS is a programme that aims at increasing safety during road freight transport by positively influencing the behaviour of drivers through observation, coaching and communication. The BBS programme specifically targets all European chemical transport companies.

* With the exception of SAFED 1:1, all courses can be delivered to up to 20 candidates in any one session.

 

In addition to our modular programmes, we deliver a number of other programmes:

START (up to 14 hours)

Developed in partnership with the Department for Transport, START aims to embed uniform standardisation across the industry. This course covers essential legislation, health and safety, driver health and the social environment of road transport.

START is designed in the format of two 7 hour courses which can be delivered together as an Induction Training programme or for Year 1 and Year 2 for experienced drivers as part of on-going refresher training.

 

SAFED Bus & Coach (7 hours)

This course is aimed at improving the safe and fuel efficient driving techniques of bus and coach drivers. Additional potential benefits of SAFED training include reduced driver fatigue and stress, enhanced driver skill and professionalism reduced wear and tear, downtime and maintenance and replacement costs.

 

SAFED (7 hours)

Our SAFED programme is accredited by Edexcel and is now recognised as a valuable tool for reducing fuel, insurance and vehicle costs, whilst having a positive impact on environmental damage by reducing CO² emissions and pollutions.

 

ADR training (up to 21 hours)

System Training’s ADR programme plays a key role in ensuring drivers understand their responsibilities and legislative obligations; equipping them with essential knowledge to transport dangerous goods safely and to respond correctly to emergency situations.

 

Safety Pass Alliance Quarry (up to 14 hours)

This programme provides an overview of the safe operation of a quarry site. Candidates will learn how to recognise hazards in the workplace and train in a range of health and safety issues.

 

Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage (up to 35 hours)

This course is aimed at those who wish to hold the prerequisite qualification of Professional Competence for Operator Licensing in the UK and those who wish to pursue a supervisory/managerial career in Road Transport Operations.

 

Transport Manager CPC Refresher (up to 14 hours)

The Refresher course is designed for managers who wish to update their skills and knowledge on current legislation.
