 1.      Introduction

The Incident and Investigation course was designed for managers who may be involved with investigating accidents or reconstructing the scene.

2.      Aims

To provide an overview of collision investigation / reconstruction and how it impacts on a road transport business.

3.      Objectives

·        Gain a basic understanding of collision investigation and reconstruction techniques.

·        Review the type of data collected by the police and its availability.

·        Understand the interaction between the police and vehicle owners/drivers during investigations.

·        Review the principal causes of collisions and identify remedial measures.

·        Gain an insight into the protocol covering joint police and Health and Safety enquiries.

·        Gain a basic understanding of The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act.

5.      Course Content (2 days)

  • Liability by companies in respect of the fleet.
  • Business Continuity after involvement in collisions.
  • Seizure of vehicles and loads.
  • Police statistical information and its value.
  • Specific points of contact.
  • Agency drivers, hired vehicles.
  • Fleet / driver policies in relation to collisions.
  • Use of technology e.g. telemetry data.
  • How new legislation impacts companies.

The course is classroom based.
